Like father, like daughter. Mackenzie’s father is black belt Wellington Megaton, winner of the last five installments of the International Master and Senior tournament. By her doting father’s side, the fighter travels the world training, competing and winning. After winning the 2010 Worlds, she made her purple belt debut in grand style at the Rio Open.
“At the Worlds, as a blue belt, I got the submission in five matches in my weight division and took second in the absolute. At the Rio Open I got the submission in two matches in my weight division and another four in the absolute. Not bad, huh?!” said Mackenzie, who is following in the footsteps of her heroes.
“I get a lot of my inspiration from Letícia Ribeiro and Beatriz Mesquita. I like Ana Carolina Vidal a lot. It’s all about Gracie Humaitá!”
As it seems, there are many victories in store for the fighter in her future. And there’s no lack of projects.
“I want to always win the absolute and do well when I become a black belt, that type of stuff. I very much want, in the future, to open an academy just for girls. I think that would be really cool,” says Mackenzie in finishing.
